Homewood Bay Lodge is located in the geographical center of the Marlborough Sounds near the northeastern tip of the South Island. The closest community is the small town of Havelock (the green-shell mussel capital of the world) at the head of Pelorus Sound.
The Lodge is remote, having no road access, and instead is reached only by boat, floatplane, or helicopter.
Transportation to and from the Lodge by mail boat or water taxi is included in the room tariff.

The commercial and transportation hub of Marlborough (a half-hour highway ride from Havelock) is the city of Blenheim located in the heart of the Marlborough wine region.
An additional half-hour highway ride from Blenheim is the town of Picton and the Cook Strait ferry terminal.
